Gareth chose to buy his support from Welmede
We currently support Gareth when he is home from college in the holidays. Gareth has an individual budget and when we first met with Gareth and his family it was to help with support planning.
Gareth’s family are very supportive however one of Gareth’s outcomes was: "Not to have to rely all the time on my family to get out and about in the holidays, they work and have things they need to do too".
College for Gareth is about his independence, going out with his friends and living his life. Gareth didn’t want that to stop in the holidays so it was about planning how we could support Gareth to achieve that.
For Welmede it was important to work with Gareth, his family and other people who were important to him to build up the ‘richer picture of life’, what was important to Gareth, what he wanted to change and how that could happen.
When it came to arranging support the important thing for Gareth was that his support was flexible and consistent - he was trying to build up his confidence. Shared interests were also very important.
Gareth chose to buy his support from Welmede and continues to do so.
