"I’ve always admired and respected horses. Dreamt of being able to get on one and gallop through the countryside – at one with the animal.
I’ve always been quite nervous of horses, because they’re so big, powerful and intelligent. They can sense how we feel and if they can trust a person. They are strong willed and will do what they want to do, when they want - you have to earn their respect. I never thought I’d be able to ride because of my intimidation and of course because of not having the opportunity to.
Welmede has given me the opportunity to live my dream. Wendy is lovely, a brilliant teacher and has an amazing connection with her horses.
I’m lucky to have one to one lessons, which not many stables do and the price is reasonable, plus well worth it! I can only go once a month, but would love to go almost every day.
My nervousness soon disappeared with Wendy’s calmness and the calmness of her ponies. I learn something new every time, and it wasn’t long before I was trotting and able to guide a pony, weaving it through a line of posts. Wendy says I’m very relaxed on the horse and they know it, so the horses relax too and respond well to my commands. You only need to give very gentle, hardly noticeable tugs on a rein, or heel squeezes and a horse will respond.
I love riding now, and the horses and I always look forward excitedly to my lessons. Thank you to Welmede."
